The words “Natural” and “Organic” are thrown around so much now, that they have essentially lost their meaning. But for those looking to get away from chemically enriched shampoos and beauty potions sold in stores, there are many home made solutions that are just as good as the commercial products. For instance, shampoos are just combinations of chemicals and soap that strip your hair of its natural oils, requiring you to use conditioners to replace the oils and nutrients that the shampoo just removed.
If you look into natural cleaning solutions, baking soda and vinegar come up often as the main ingredients. They are on the list yet again as effective replacements for shampoos and conditioners. Many natural shampoo recipes list them as a base ingredient.
There are also the natural soap options, where you buy liquid castile soap and combine it with herbs and oils, but this is a more tedious process and not as simple as the baking soda and water solutions. There are also many more conditioner recipes, involving fruits, oils, and other food items. But again, not as simple as vinegar and water, so we’ll save these for a later date.
Shampoo:
Recipe #1: One cup of water to a tablespoon of baking soda.
Recipe #2: One part baking soda to two parts water.
Recipe #3: A solution of one part water to one part distilled white vinegar.
Conditioner:
Recipe #1: One cup of water to a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.
Not everyone will like the experience, but it is something to try at least once. You can save your hair from potentially toxic chemicals and not wash so much goopy lotion down your shower drain. For those who wish to live “Green”, this is one of the best ways as there is no need to repeatedly buy new bottles of shampoo, since you can just keep reusing the same bottle.
